Unsearched Penny
What does “unsearched” mean, concerning old coins?
I found some wheat pennies, 1909-1958 for sale. One roll ($0.50) cost $9.00. Seems a little high to me, but then I don’t know the worth of older coins. They are described as being “unsearched”. I’m wondering what this means and should I purchase them for that price? Any help is very appreciated.

$9.00 is very high for a roll of wheaties. You should be buying mixed wheaties at 2 cents each, not 18 cents each.
“Unsearched” means you have confidence in the guy that is selling the coins that he has not gone through the batch to high grade the better coins out.
For my money, the only unsearched coins I know of for sure, are those I’ve metal detected and tossed into an old spittoon in my basement. They’ve been there for years, waiting for my grandchildren to develope an interest in coin collecting. Otherwise, the word “unsearched” is only as good as the guy selling the coins to you. Think about it. If you had a pile of old coins, and there is a good chance that one of them could be worth a few bucks, would you sell them “unsearched?”
