Tubes Half
The formulae for manometer is airpressure+difference of waterlevel.It should be only half the diff water level?
It doesn’t make sense to me when the formula is air pressure plus difference in water level. Initially, when the gas supply was not introduced, both tubes are of the same water level. But when the gas supply is introduced, there is a difference in their water level so the tube of the lower water level moves only half of the distance of the higher water level so, why is it so? It make sense if we were to add air pressure to half of the difference of water level. Please help me out here.
The pressure pushing up on the lower surface by the higher one equals the total height difference between the 2 columns.
Think of measuring the pressure in the high column at the same level as the top of the lower one. It clearly has to equal the total difference in height and must also equal the pressure at the top of the low one as well.
