How to naturally tone silver dollar coins?

I have a few morgan silver dollars and want to know how to get a naturally toned coin. I’ve seen artificially toned coins and the tone rubs right off. Is there anyway to naturally tone a coin?

The only way to naturally tone is to put a silver coin in close quarters, (pardon the pun), with sulphur. An old manila envelope, or any other low dose sulphur source will tone a silver coin in a few years.

The real question is why you wish to tone? I like toning, but except in very rare cases does it inprove the value. Most collectors prefer shiny white coins. Go to a coin show and look at hundreds of toned and untoned coins is the best way I can suggest to learn your own preference and how to spot fake toning.

P.S. Most fake toned coins have the toning applied to cover up a major defect. That is another reason most collectors prefer white coins.
