Where is a good place in colorado to shoot for free?

I know there are a lot of good shooting ranges, but I don’t like to spend 10-15 bucks every time I just want to plink around. Is there anywhere close to denver or colorado springs (I live in Castle Rock) to just head out to a natl park and sight in a rifle, or just have fun with a little target practice?

There is a public range just outside of Colorado Springs up the Rampart Range Road which runs between Woodland Park and The Garden of the Gods. Start at the bottom (in GOG) and drive up for about 20 minutes. The range will be on your right. I suggest going early in the day or mid-week in the Spring and Fall. It can get crowded in the summer and on weekends. There are benches and tables at both the pistol range and the rifle range.
