Splitter Lincoln

What kind of question is this?
A Yahoo user who goes by “Petard” (there is a joke in there but I’ll not go there) asked a supposedly “trick” question without giving any of the clues. S/he figured that they forgot to “add” the clues until 7 people had already answered the question, and rewarded the 8th for it. I’ll post what the person originally asked:
“Does a certain former lawyer and state legislator from Illinois have enough experience to be president?
Obviously, given this year’s election, the answer would refer to Barack Obama. So 7 people answered before this person remembered they forgot some details:
“I forgot to add, this person also worked as a rail splitter and was born in a log cabin. Does that make him qualified to be president?”
Of course, we’re not supposed to assume s/he was referring to Abraham Lincoln. The first question had no context or contextual clues.
Only AFTER this “Petard” (the p should have been another letter) added the “clues” did someone answer ‘Lincoln”. How dumb.
S/he is messing with your mind and you took the bait.
