Is there a visible difference between silver-plated and sterling silver jewelry?

I’m looking at getting a Juicy Couture charm bracelet, and it’s silver-plated. I wanted it to match a sterling silver necklace that I already own. Is there any visible difference between these two types of silver? Thanks!

At first, the silver plated should look identical to sterling silver jewelry. However, silver plated can fade over time. It wears down, rubs off, fades and exposes the base metal beneath it. In general when purchasing a piece of silver jewelry for your collection, go with genuine 925 sterling silver. Silver is a precious metal and since demand for silver has outpaced production for some time now, it is only going to get more valuable over time.
