Getting Ready For Your First Baby

When you are pregnant and expecting your first baby it is both very exciting and a little overwhelming all at once. You are anxious to meet the little one that you have developing inside you and check that everything is in the right place and at the same time you may be a little bit concerned about the big life change that is coming and how you will cope.

Preparation is the key. That means being physically prepared with all the bits and pieces that you are going to need once the baby is born and emotionally prepared for the change that it is going to bring with it.

Baby stuff is definitely cute, but you do not have to bankrupt yourself buying up designer baby bedding and hunting down crystal encrusted pacifiers. You will need the extra cash soon enough with a new born and a possible cut in the household income. Talk to other mothers and find out what the common necessities are, buy them and adopt a wait and see approach for the other items.

There are definite items that you will need to have to make everything run smoothly. A secure pram, a convertible crib that will adjust to the growth and development of your baby, clothing, blankets, bibs, bottles and a breast pump if you are breastfeeding are all wise investments. Extras like change tables are useful if you have the space and extra cash.

A good bedding collection will also mean that you do not have to worry about washing as often. As well as buying the things you need for the bub, you should also spend some time getting yourself emotionally ready for the baby. During pregnancy and for a while afterwards you are a ball of conflicting hormones and this can lead to emotional fragility. Add that you have undergone a physical trauma whether you gave birth naturally or through cesarean, that you will be sleep deprived and are undergoing a huge change to your lifestyle, then it is no wonder that you might feel a little stressed.

To deal with all of this, the best thing you can do is go easy on yourself. Don’t worry too much about the housework and don’t stress if you are still in a milk splattered nightie at three o’clock in the afternoon. None of that really matters, what does matter is that you are bonding with your baby and meeting the baby’s and your own needs.

Welcoming your first baby into the home and learning how to deal with them and enjoy the experience is potentially pretty tough. Try to get prepared as much as you can both physically and emotionally beforehand. Accept as much help as you can and don’t be afraid to ask for help from your friends and family – most people will understand that you are going through a demanding time and be happy to help out. Don’t have expectations that are too high for yourself as it is most important that you allow your body to heal and recover and that you bond with your gorgeous little bundle.

Kidnapped By Neptune

Kidnapped By Neptune

$11.98

Her given name is Emma Louise, but when Ms. Niblett dons her blonde wig and steps into the recording booth–or onto the stage–she becomes Scout. On Kidnapped by Neptune, the Nottingham native combines the single-minded intensity of Cat Power with the spirited sweetness of the Breeders. The end result is raw, ragged, exposed. As with 2003′s I Am, her third full-length was recorded in Chicago by St…

Sweet Heart Fever

$7.27

Scout Niblett’s debut album, Sweet Heart Fever, gives the distinct impression that this singer-songwriter is older than her years but much younger than her sound (imagine PJ Harvey with the weight of history–not just of womanhood–on her small shoulders). Niblett’s throaty voice is the main instrument in these songs, which describe identities real and imagined, love as an exorcism, and growing up…
