San Fran

Is San Fran really the most anti-American city in the country?
I’ve heard people say that more American flags are burned in San Fran than in Tehran. People in San Fran seem to relish this reputation as being anti-american, anti-capitalism, anti-US troops, anti-heterosexuality. Is this reputation really deserved or is it blow out of proportion?
I’ve never seen a flag burned here. Anyone who lives here knows the city isn’t anti-Capitalism (note: we, along with New York City, are the epicenter of International Banking in America)… And anti-hetereosexual, are you kidding? The VAST majority of the population here (around 85%) is heterosexual.
However, it is one of the more liberal cities in America, but despite what some ignorant people will have others believe, liberal doesn’t equal “Anti-American”. Most people in the city are actually more pro-American and pro-Constitution than people in the rest of the country, as we support equal rights and legal protection of those rights for EVERYONE and don’t support an unjust war which has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people (many of whom are American soldiers). And many of us think the current administration, and their lack of consideration for American (and other) life overseas, and their mockery of the constitution (ie: restricting personal liberties, trying to ban equal rights, presenting the war as “you’re with us or against us” thus making basic rights and freedom of speech granted to every US citizen from day one taboo and “un-American”, etc…) is very un-American.
And just to note… Capitalism isn’t necessarily an American value strictly speaking. It’s one economic system that has been adopted by America for quite some time now, but isn’t necessarily an *original* American value.

Friday Night in San Francisco – Live $4.00 This live recording from 1980 matched fusion guitar heavyweights Al DiMeola and John McLaughlin with Spanish guitar whiz Paco DeLucia. Metallica – S & M with the San Francisco Symphony $15.13 There’s little doubt that this two-volume concert and documentary package will appeal to die-hard Metallica lovers–given its more than three-hour length (two and a half for the concert segment alone), the band’s predominantly white male fan base (repeatedly addressed as “man” by singer-guitarist James Hetfield) will be–in fact already are–ecstatic. But one wonders, especially given the errati… |

Investigative Reports: San Fran Vice [VHS] $19.91 Policing morality has always been one of the most problematic jobs in law enforcement. And in San Francisco, where morality and related laws shift constantly, it is more complicated than almost anywhere else in America. In the 1950′s it was illegal to serve a known homosexual alcohol.
