Christine O’Donnell And Other Tea Party Candidates Still Will Need A Real Election Triumph
The November 2010 election cycle will determine if the Tea Party, subject of controversy and all sorts of bluster is really worth the attention it has been paid. Real momentum with voters has been attributed to some Tea Party candidates. Another Tea Party favored just won a Republican Primary and will run for the upcoming Senate election for an open seat from Delaware. O’Donnell was chosen over previous Delaware Governor Michael Castle, also a longtime member of the House of Representatives. The Tea Party, when popular in a grass roots setting, is viewed with a wary eye by senior government officials including many Republicans. Some believe that Tea Party types will only alienate people further, and aren’t realistic enough to accomplish anything. Tea Party is not a party and some of them don’t even seem fun
The Tea Party is not a political party. It’s a voting bloc mostly among Republicans, similar to the Democratic Freedom Caucus (libertarian Democrats) or Log Cabin Republicans (Republicans amenable to gay rights). Were tea party organizations to become a third party, it would be the death of it. The most successful third party of all time was the Progressive Party of 1912, also called the Bull Moose Party. Also, Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck couldn’t even hope to compete with the Bull Moose presidential candidate. It was Theodore Roosevelt. Dismal performances are registered by third parties ever since. In presidential and congressional elections. As outlined by Wikipedia, the best third party result since Roosevelt was in 1968, when George Wallace carried 5 states in the electoral college when running on a platform of canceling all civil rights legislation and reinstituting segregation.
Primary in Delaware
The recent Delaware Republican Primary election determined whether O’Donnell or Michael Castle would be able to run for the United States of America Senate. Castle has more experience than one can shake a stick at. He was governor of Delaware for two terms, and has served in the US House of Representatives since 1993. O’Donnell does not have any experience in any office anywhere. Yet, the Tea Party likes her. She won the primary, as outlined by the New York Times, 57 percent to 43 percent. That said, her inexperience was balanced out by something else. She was, after all, endorsed by Sarah Palin. Palin’s endorsements mean a lot to some people, but Alaskans bear in mind she barely completed half a term as governor of the state. Her tenure was also marred by ethical and legal investigations.
Talk is cheap
Elections are what determine success in politics, and also the Tea Party doesn’t have any besides primaries. The real effect of these rallies and also the movement will not be known until the November elections have concluded. Tea Party individuals are being viewed with a cautious eye, as few have enough experience to work well and even senior Republicans think they’ll only alienate more individuals than they’ll attract.
