Norman Rockwell Prints

In 1941 a State of the Union speech was given by President Franklin Roosevelt, and Norman Rockwell was motivated by the four essential human rights identified within the speech. Norman Rockwell went on to paint the ever-famous four Freedoms set of 4 paintings inspired by this speech. These four Freedom paintings were called: Freedom from Want, Freedom of Speech, Freedom to Worship and Freedom from Fear.

This series of four Norman Rockwell prints is probably the most famous of his paintings. Many Americans have at least one of the set hanging in their homes nowadays. The theme of the State of the Union address that affected these paintings went over the four essential human rights that needed to be secured and reminded the people of the U.S. why we were in WWII. The Norman Rockwell Freedom prints is really the major foundation of his art collection.

Norman Rockwell is thought to be one of the most well-known recent and commercial artists of the 20th century. He had a problematic time being accepted while he was living and was thought to be by many to be more of a illustrator than a first-rate artist. He was noted, but not always thought to be a fine artist. The wide distribution of Norman Rockwell prints are what made him more well known. Even today you’ll still encounter them in clubs, public spaces, schools and post offices. They symbolize what American was all about in the region of the time of WWII, portraying middle American.

These Norman Rockwell Freedom prints did not always receive positive feedback during their days. Many thought Rockwell was too blissful, and he was not believed to be a fine artist. Perhaps depicting America as too idealized, too “all-American”. Rockwell backed up many causes encompassing WWI with his artwork, including endorsing war bonds, supporting women to work, and men to assist their country by enlisting. His themes involved cooperation, family, patriotism.
