As one of the milestone battles fought during World War 2, the attack on Pearl Harbor December 7th, 1941 was a defining moment in not just American, but World history. With the Japanese Military fully entrenched in the ongoing conflict, President Roosevelt had sanctioned US troops to Pearl Harbor to act as a deterrent to Japanese hostility. However they were not anticipating the attacks from the east and the United States was caught unprepared for this invasion. The Japanese Navy positioned an aircraft carrier close enough to the harbor to carry out an air raid that sank 8 battleships and damaged the rest with thousands of casualties.
With the US previously somewhat divided on its involvement in the ongoing war, this brought them into the picture full force. The mission now was to remove the Japanese striking power and eliminate them as a threat along with their German and Italian allies. President Roosevelt heads up the American representation with the Navy that was under assault during this invasive sneak attack. Their mission was world peace and democracy.
