Quarters Uncirculated
Are circulated state quarters going to be worth more than .25 compared to uncirculated?
I’m afraid the answer is “not likely.” The uncirculated coins, especially from 1999 (the first year for the statehood quarters) are in greater demand because they’re tougher to obtain, but that’s why they command a premium. Used (that is, circulated) coins are generally available all over, but as they circulate, they get scratched and worn. Consequently, they’re not in as much demand and don’t sell for much more than face value. It’s all a function of supply and demand — the demand is higher, and the supply lower, for uncirculated quarters, so the price is higher; for circulated quarters, the supply is pretty high and the demand is relatively low, so the price is going to be low. If you find an older one that’s in excellent or near mint-state condition, you might keep it to put in a map or folder, but it will always be circulated and probably not worth much more than 25 cents.
