Big tick for educational aids

The rampant advance of technology is turning many teenagers into ‘screenagers’ – even when they’re at school. Will primary school learners eventually follow the same technology route?
Australian Teaching Aids’ director, Jane Fievez, doesn’t believe this will happen because she says, primary school learners respond well to a tactile and visual approach to teaching.  “The tried and trusted methodology has proven success,” she said.  “Primary school students need to see, hear, feel and experience different stimuli in the classroom, and the value of vibrant, exciting teaching aids cannot be over-stated.
“Young learners respond well when verbal theory is boosted by exciting teaching aids such as charts and books, rather than a computer screen,” she said.
From laminated charts and books, stickers and merit certificates, bulletin boards and novelty pencils, Australian Teaching Aids has been supplying teachers with quality teaching aids for over 25 years. The company is continually looking at adding to its product range or improving its existing items to make sure it keeps relevant to the national curriculum.
“We are motivated what the market needs,” said Jane.”We’ll meet any education need.  Our team of talented artists constantly develop new material and teaching aids in response to changing education needs and themes, for example Book Week, Anzac Day, Back to School and Christmas.
Local design has given the company the edge.Australian Teaching Aids produce over 80% of its products locally. “It’s absolutely vital to ensure that all the language, grammar, spelling and punctuation in the teaching aids are correct, which isn’t the case with much of the imported material. It is important that we get it right, especially as we are in the business of education.”
All the laminated charts are produced locally using recycled materials, and feature local relevant Australiana such as eucalypts and marsupials to make them even more appealing to children. It’s vital to have a variety of options .  Charts range from incentive charts to educational charts such as language and grammar, maths and tables, maps and anthems to the water cycle and lifecycles of various animals and plants.
Stickers remain the company’s biggest seller, and each year, Australian Teaching Aids adds new designs to its already huge range. From merit stickers with different messages to metallic ones, fluorescent ones, laser ones and even scented stickers – the choice is endless.”Everyone loves a pat on the back, and there’s no doubt that our huge range of Aussie-made and designed stickers gets the thumbs-up from teachers and kids every time,” Jane said.”
All products from Australian Teaching Aids are safe for use by children and meet the Australian health requirements.
A book range, written by well-known authors, is another of the company’s success stories. The books range from Benchmarking books to more specific titles such as Science Experiments, Maths Problem Solving and Learning about Libraries, and are all designed to meet the eduction needs of the different Australian states.
Australian Teaching Aids are available from selected retailers throughout Australia and also via its recently updated website.Value-added extras include speedy delivery and point-of-sale material for suppliers, supported by a comprehensive customer support policy.
Computers and screens are undoubtedly growing in popularity, even in classrooms, but at the same time, the more traditional teaching support are gaining ground too as teachers look to them for value-added classroom help.
