Quality Replated
Can anyone give me some info on rhodium plating over white gold?
I have been married 14 months and my white gold wedding rings are really turning yellow. I wasn’t aware that you had to get your white gold replated every year or so. When I was in the mall this past week, one jeweler told me that for $40/ each ring, they could replate them. That’s $120 for my and my husband’s rings. To me that’s a bit much for ring maitenance every year. Does anyone know of any places that can replate them for a decent price and quality job? Also, is is possible to give a near-permanent plating, so you don’t have to keep re-doing it?
Appreciate any info or personal experiences on this
I think it’s pretty standard that you have to have it done each year–the jeweler that my husband and I purchased our rings from included a “warranty” package for like an extra $100 on the set. We drop them off on a Friday and pick them up again the following Monday.
Try a jewelry chain store instead of an independent jeweler, the price may be cheaper for the re-plating…I know Sears and Zales both do it. I’m pretty sure Kay Jewelers does too.
