Proof Pristine

Proof Pristine
Is my 2006 US quarter coin silver?

I have a Colorado 2006 US quarter. I found it in change today. It looks pristine, shiny, proof-like. It has silver all around the edge, not clad looking. It is marked D, not S. It weighs 5.8 grams. What do I have? An error??

No you have a quarter that the copper core is just not showing and that can be for many reasons such as wear. A silver Statehood quarter weighs 6.25 grams and was only struck at the San Francisco mint (S). The weight of a clad quarter is 5.67 grams so yours is close. There is a plus and minus to coin weights anyway. The coin could have been buffed up, or it was an early strike from the die. With a lupe look and see if there are tiny scratches in the fields, if so it has been cleaned or buffed.
