I have a 1970 S struck penny but I can’t tell if it’s a low 7 or a high 7, would it be really noticeable?
To me it looks like its a high 7, but the 9 also looks larger than all the other numbers so it’s hard for me to tell. If you need me to e mail a picture of the coin I can.
Well, it takes some magnification to be able to see it easily…
Imagine drawing a line from the top of the 9 to the top of the 0. If the 7 doesn’t touch that line, it’s a low 7, and if it does, it’s a high 7.
There are other “secondary” markers that you can look for. They’re not foolproof, but they can help you tell if you can’t really tell by looking at the date.
If the coin is in reasonable shape, the word “Liberty” is weak on the High 7 cents.
