I have a 2010 American Silver Eagle. It’s rated by PCGS as an MS 70 and is a First Strike coin.?
According to PCG S’s own price guide, it’s worth $95. I was just wondering if anyone thinks that it will go up in intrinsic value? I know that may seem like an obvious question, but the vast majority of prices for the silver Eagle coin have gone down. Is this something that will rebound like the economy?
When people talk about the “intrinsic value” of a coin, they’re usually referring to the bullion value. The bullion value of an ASE right now is just under $30. The extra $65 is for the condition of the coin. (Actually, it’s not quite that simple–the numismatic value of a coin isn’t necessarily tied to it’s bullion value. If silver went down to $10/ounce, I don’t know that your coin would drop $20 in value)
Generally, gold and silver prices move down as the economy improves. And, BTW, silver is nowhere near an “all-time” high. It hit about $50/ounce in 1980–when you figure in inflation, that would be about $128/ounce today.
