Original Surfaces

Original Surfaces
A rectangular board is sawed into two pieces by a straight cut across its width.?

The larger piece is twice the length of the smaller piece. This smaller piece is cut again into two parts, one three times the length of the other. You now have three pieces of board. The smallest piece is a 7-inch square. What was the original surface area of the board?

You should post this on homework help, math
Ill give it a shot
x= length of shortest piece
x=7in

x+3x+2(x+3x)=4x+2x+6x=12x
since x=7in then 12x=12(7)=84
length is 84in
now area of a rectangle is length times width
l=84in w=7in– since the smallest piece was a square.
84in x 7in=588 square inches or 588in^2
