Staines Gets A New Name, And Different News Stories

The town of Staines, in the Greater London Area, UK has been made famous as the hometown of satirical character Ali G, played by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen. Staines Business Forum Chairman Alex Tribick is so unimpressed with this unflattering parody that he is pushing to rename the town. The new proposed name will be something along the lines of ‘Staines on Thames’ or ‘Staines upon Thames’, to highlight the fact that the town is located along the famous River Thames. Tribick also believes that this new name will also improve tourism to the area during the upcoming 2012 London Olympics. renamer

Gloria Kolodziej, a former Councilwoman and dedicated supporter of the arts, will be honoured soon when the Clifton Arts Center in New Jersey is renamed after her. There will be a ceremony on the twenty eighth of November to commemorate the contribution that Gloria made to the arts after serving on the Clifton City Council for over 20 years. The newly named Gloria J. Kolodziej Arts Center recently celebrated its ten year anniversary. An arts showcase was held and collages and slideshows displayed memories of the center’s ten year history. There was also a formal dinner, jazz dance performance, music and a theatrical production. renamer

Due to many changes including a new sponsor, the Eaglebank Bowl will be renamed the “Military Bowl Presented by Northrop Grumman”. This year’s game will be held in Washington, D.C. at the Robert F. Kennedy Stadium on December 29th. The annual American football event, which is in its third year, will still keep Eaglebank on as a sponsor as well. The massive event will now benefit a new charity, the USO or United Service Organizations Inc. This non-profit organization enhances the lives of members of the U.S. Military by providing morale and recreational services in 140 different centers all around the world. renamer
