In Matters of Style, Ceiling Fans Beat Out Stand-Alone Ones
Is some voice in the back of your mind telling you that what you really want is not a cheeseburger with extra cheese and pickles, but a black ceiling fan? It’s really not such an odd occurrence. Think about it, each year, when summer comes around, beyond being shaken up with the thought that bikinis will be in order for at least the next three months, people become a bit anxious about deciding if another fan is necessary for their homes. The anxiety is the kind that comes not from worrying that someone will aim a finger into a fan’s rapidly turning blades. It’s actually the kind that comes from knowing that you’ve bought a fan each summer for the past few years and experienced the exact same dilemma each and every time. Somehow, the issue’s never been put to rest for good.
Take last year, for instance. It started in the spring, the weather was still beautifully mild and you were out tourist-strolling through San Francisco’s hilly streets with killer views. At the time, it probably seemed completely reasonable to forgo the unbudgeted purchase of a marvelous kids ceiling fan displayed in a whimsical Chinatown boutique. However, is it not true that not long after your return home you found it necessary to make at least one appliance-store outing for some stand-alone fans?
Not to sound like the prosecution team behind Indoor and Outdoor Ceiling Fans United, but a beautiful ceiling fan could have been obtained earlier that would have more enduringly contributed to your home’s history and mystique. The fact is that stand-alone fans make, for the most part, awkward stylistic additions. They may get their job done efficiently enough since it is a given, after all, that they will get a room’s air circulating, but their looks are sometimes too appalling.
That’s one of the reasons why besides being cheap, they’re also disposable. It may be a while before you make it back to the City by the Bay, but if you can’t find an exact model of the kid fan you saw on your trip (even online it’s possible to strike out), you can at least go for one or two rustic ceiling fans for the living room. These you’re sure to find online or in a nearby store. In pairs they look quite lovely. So, get your energy bills to go down and add some spin to your home’s air.
