Why did the German Nazi’s uniforms look like dresses in the 40′s?

I was watching a show today and it was showing pictures of WW2 German Nazis and all of their uniforms looked like dresses. Like really long duster shin-length trench coat type things with a belt and snazzy boots. Was there a use in that? Or just fashion?

the use was more for psychological purposes than physical. really, the soldiers and Nazi’s liked uniforms, and uniforms helped to show the rank of the man, or woman, that was wearing it. depending on what type of uniform it was it showed the wearers power and prestige. also depending on who wore what, they were good in combat situations for keeping soldiers dry and comfortable. uniforms also helped add to the Nazi’s belief that Germans were superior because the party members and even soldiers always looked nice, while also looking powerful (even though some look silly, the person wearing it does look strong and important, at least in my opinion). the link below gives you good pictures of who wore what:
