Steve Young better than Joe Montana?
Yes, Joe won 4 super bowls. However, Steve Young did not have the great defense Joe had nor did he have a decent running game until Ricky Watters arrived.
Joe is considered a better 4th quarter comeback player, but Steve Young ran the West Coast offense so well that the team was rarely behind anyways. When they were, it was only big because Niners defense can’t stop the other team and they had no pass rush back then.
So why is Joe still considered better than Young?
Ugh, Kobra… I can tell you are just an average Niner fan just by your statement. I guess you forgot when Montana was benched for Young in 1987 playoff game when Joe played so poorly. Also, NY Giants knocked out Joe in 1986 AND 1991 playoffs. If he could scamble like Young, he might of finished the game, you think???
All Steve has that’s better than Joe is passer rating and rushing(which isn’t key to a quarterback in the). Joe have more passing yards, touchdowns, completions, 4th quarter comebacks, and most of all more Super Bowls rings. Steve Young is my favorite all time quarterback, but you have to give it up to Montana. Also, Joe was with the Niners when they BECAME a dynasty. By the time young was around the Niners already established themselves.
