Mint Roosevelt

I have a Roosevelt dime that has no back. What is the term for this error or is it even an error?
The dime is ‘hollow’ like a bowl when face down on a flat surface. I have no idea how a dime is minted…do they start out with a single piece of metal & stamp both sides? or is the back somehow inserted and then fused together by a pressing process? I need educated here. I’ve had it for about 20 years. Thanks.
Unless it is silver, all US coins are metal mixes, that is, they start with a cheap metal, typically a nickel alloy and plate it. Once that has been done, the mint stamps them. Your best bet to find out more about this dime is to locate a local coin colletor/seller and ask them.
