Does an authentic belly dancer’s belt have to be made with coins?

I have mini silver bells I want to use instead of those cheap looking aluminum “coins.” I know the sound effect would not be the same, and I’m ok with that.

I suggest you have a look at www.tribe.net and search for bellydance tribes… it has been soooo helpful to me as far as costuming etc, you can post pics of your bells and other dancers can give you advice at what to do and how to do it. If you see pics of dancers from egypt etc most of them don’t use coins at all in their costumes… mainly beading/fringing… so use the bells , but also use fringing to give that swing.
