What Are All Those Pillows with Comforter Sets?
Comforter sets notoriously offer numerous pillow linens in them. What are they? What are you supposed to do with all that comes in these sets? You should know what to expect when buying these linens, including what options you have for investing in high quality comforters and bed linens that will last a long time.
The Makeup
In many cases, people are happy to receive all of those extra pieces with their bedding purchase. Others, on the other hand, are not interested in shams and extra bed skirts. They simply want the sheets and pillow cases to put on the bed. If this sounds like you, invest in a comforter without the actual set. It could save you a good deal of money and help you to get the best look for your bedroom furniture without all of those extras.
For those who do want to take advantage of each of the pieces in comforter sets, consider what they are and what to expect. Remember that each set can be different, but most sets will tell you in advance what they offer.
• The comforter: This is the heavy piece of bedding that generally fits over the entire bed on top of bed sheets. Look for a comforter that offers the style, pattern and features you want in the room since this is the most visible piece in the bedding set.
• Shams: One or two shams will come in many sets. A king sham is often available in king size sets. These are rectangular pillow cases (no pillows included in most sets) that are about 20 inches by 26 inches in length, with king shams running 20 inches by 36 inches in length.
• European Sham: Sometimes called simply a euro sham, this is another type of pillow case. The biggest difference in the euro and standard shams is the shape. Most euro shams are square in shape, though they can be various sizes. Many run 26 inches by 26 inches. These pillow cases fit over a European or euro pillow.
• Square Pillows: To further complicate things, some comforter sets also feature a square pillow. This pillow is positioned on top of the bed, in front of all other pillows (with euro pillows behind it and shammed pillows behind those.) This is not usually a pillow case, but a small pillow.
• Oblong Pillows: Some sets also include an oblong pillow. This is a pillow, not a cover, and may be in various sizes. Some people place these at the end of the bed while others use it as a toss pillow. It may replace the square pillow in some sets.
• Bed Skirts: It is also common to find bed skirts in complete comforter sets for master bedroom furniture. This fits between the master bed mattress and the box spring and hangs over the edge to cover the box spring.
As you can see, decorating your master bedroom set with the right comforter set does take some getting used to when it comes to pillows and linens, but a completely put together bedroom set does stand out as impressive.
