Gold & Gold Coins?
ok i Heard since the price of gold has gone up could i try and sell some of my gold dollars to a nerby jewerly shop almost 1,000 bucks an ounce and im sure each coin maybe close to an ounce would that work 3 are sakaguwea and 1 is madison please be honest im so excited cause i need/ looking for some money
Those coins have no gold in them, they are merely gold in color. Their composition is 6% Zinc, 3.5% Manganese, 2% Nickel, and 88.5% Copper. The last dollar coin to really have gold in it was in 1889. Their were $2.50 and $5.00 gold coins until 1929 and $10 and $20 dollar coins until 1933. Then gold prices started to increase tremendously.
But seriously, if those coins had any gold in them with the price per ounce what it is do you really think the face value would be $1? Back when the $20 gold coins were made they were big and clunky and their weight was such that the price per ounce equaled $20, that’s why they were $20 coins.
