The Attractions of Washington DC
Just utter the name of Washington DC and you get flashes of the White House, congressmen and the political leaders in your eyes.
Washington DC, founded on the July16, 1790, is the capital of USA and houses the headquarters of all the three divisions of the US federal government. Though named after the first US president George Washington, politics is not the only game played in the Washington DC.

Ford’s Theatre – It was build at the same spot where President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. There is also a Ford Theater opened in 1861. It serves both as a theater and a historic spot. The theater has an onsite museum which has large number of historic artifacts.
National Gallery of Art – It is a mesmerizing domain consisting of the artworks from different parts of the world and works by the different US artists. This gallery was established in the year 1937. The adjacent east and west building together house vast collection of pre-20th century Italian, Spanish, European, Flemish, Dutch, British and French artwork by greats like Monet, Titian, Van Dyks, Da Vinci.
Museums: Museums are the integral part of this great city and is one of the most important attractions. Starting from the big state funded institutions to the small historic houses breathing charm, surely these museums will welcome you to whole array of interesting elements and surprises.
The National Museum of National History houses the dinosaur exhibits apart from the Family Hall of Mammals, the National Museum of American Indians depict the culture, National Building Museum has a good collection of properly preserved collection of the architectural prints, photographic images, material samples, American Art Museum has a good collection of various US artworks, the Smithsonian Castle is the headquarters of the Smithsonian Information Center which has about 16 museums in the whole complex.
Political Houses –When you visit the Washington you just can’t resist visiting many important political houses. These include White House which is the official residence of the US President; Jefferson Memorial which is a commemorative monument of Thomas Jefferson, the third US President; US Capitol consisting of the legislative division of the US government: both houses of Representatives and the Senate; Air Force Memorial; Library of Congress and the Pentagon.
The attractions of Washington DC are numerous and do not end here. You will really do great injustice to your trip if you fail to visit Tidal Basin, Lafayette Square, Chesapeake and Ohio Canal during your trip.
