Does the US Mint still make Kennedy half dollars? If yes, why are they not widely circulated?
The latest Kennedy half dollar coin I ever saw was dated 1997.
Kennedy half dollars can be obtained at the bank but you have to ask for them.
Why aren’t half dollar coins used in general circulation? A lot of people would prefer to get one large half dollar coin in change rather than two quarters.
I just like the feel of holding onto a large coin myself. An Eisenhower silver dollar is overdoing it a bit but I just like the heft of a fifty cent piece.
You can buy rolls and bags of half dollars directly from the mint at a premium. Coin dealers still sell them, and I believe a very few are still shipped to banks. Most people do not seem to like coins as much as paper money, and most businesses do not seem to like dealing with dollars, half dollars, or the $2 bills or even pennies anymore.
