Authorities Arrest Faisal Shahzad In Connection With Times Square Car Bomb
Authorities made an arrest in connection with the Times Square car bomb, 30 year old Pakistan born Faisal Shahzad. He will soon be appearing in court. He apparently and thankfully didn’t know much about bomb making, because it didn’t go off. He didn’t get too far afterwards, either. Now he’s likely to need some installment loans for a really good lawyer.
Faisal Shahzad arrested in nick of time
Faisal Shahzad was attempting escape when caught. He was apprehended at John F. Kennedy International Airport, on board a plane bound for Dubai. The vehicle that had the bomb in it was traced to the original owner, which is how he was tracked down according to the Los Angeles Times. Authorities said the bomb may have been the work of two people.
Described as quiet type
Former neighbors of Faisal Shahzad described him as being very private and quiet. He never seemed to venture out of his house much, and there were conflicting stories over just what he did for a living. According to CBS, one neighbor thought he worked on Wall Street, and another believed he worked in nearby Norwalk, close to his former residence in Shelton, Connecticut. Both described him as never emerging from the house much. His house was foreclosed on last year.
The President weighs in
President Obama praised citizens that alerted law enforcement and law enforcement officials for acting. He vowed that justice would be served, and the incident would be investigated.
Unknown motives
There isn’t a known reason why Faisal Shahzad set up the Times Square car bomb. What is clear, from the CBS reports and others reports, is that he had become a citizen. He and his wife purchased a home, and she and their children now reside close to Peshawar, Pakistan, where he returned from several months ago. He also didn’t bother registering a 1993 Pathfinder he purchased with cash. Authorities tracked down the previous owner using the VIN on the motor. He is due in court soon, and that may lead to further insight.
