What personal items do people in nursing homes need?

A group of friends are planning to make gift boxes for a nursing home and we need ideas of items that will fit in a shoebox size box. We know about the normal toiletry items like deodorant, toothpaste, soap, etc. But I would like some of the more obscure items that people may need.

Moisturizing bar soap like Dove or Olay, a sachet for their drawers, real linen handkerchieves, bobby pins, fluffy socks, combs, pretty lipstick, postage stamps, sugar free mints…

DO NOT include liquid hand soap. Older ladies often mistake this for hand lotion and rub it into their faces causing irritating rashes and even soap burns on their delicate skin.
