Icg Proof
removing a graded coin in its holder?
i just bought a ICG graded MS62 1926 10$ indian eagle. well, i have the other 2 coins in the indian type set. they are in a custom made case that is made for all 3 coins. but i have 1 problem. the third and last coin in the set is graded and in a temper proof case. what should i do?
Since your $10 Indian was not grade by one of the top grading services I would go ahead and break it out of the holder to add it to your set.
But be careful not to damage the coin when you do this. Here’s how to do it:
1. Put the slab into a vise. Be sure that the coin is below the jaws of the vice.
2. Cover the slab and vice with a piece of cloth.
3. Strike the top of the slab from the side with a hammer. This will crack the slab. If plastic pieces fly off, the piece of cloth will protect you from the flying pieces. (They’re sharp!)
4. Remove the cracked slab from the vice, then use a thin-bladed screw driver to pry the slab open.
5. Carefully remove the coin.
