How to choose the perfect luxury holiday destination
When you’re planning a luxury holiday, you’ll find a wide range of exotic destinations to choose from around the world. In order to choose the perfect destination for your holiday, have a think about the type of holiday that you want and the sort of activities that you enjoy.
If you’re looking for a romantic hideaway or an idyllic beach holiday, Mauritius, the Seychelles and the Maldives are great options. These island destinations in the Indian Ocean and are popular year-round, thanks to their tropical climates. Whichever of these island groups you choose, you’ll find luxury resorts near golden beaches – you can swim or dive in the turquoise sea, enjoy romantic dinners, indulge in spa treatments or simply take a stroll along the beach with your loved one.
For something more adventurous, try New Zealand. Queenstown, on New Zealand’s South Island, is referred to as the “Adventure Capital of the World” and you can try adrenaline-fuelled activities like jet-biking, sky diving, bungy jumping and white water rafting there. Queenstown is also a ski resort and you can ski or snowboard on the slopes of The Remarkables or at Coronet Peak between June and October. Alternatively, you could enjoy a luxury holiday in Dubai, one of the United Arab Emirates, and enjoy a range of different adventures in the desert. Activities available in and around Dubai include desert safaris, dune-bashing, sand boarding and camel riding.
If you want to immerse yourself in another culture during your holiday, destinations such as China and India are perfect choices. China is a magical country, rich in culture and history – visit Shanghai to see a fascinating blend of tradition and modernity, head to Beijing to take a tour of the Forbidden City, walk along the Great Wall of China or see the world-famous Terracotta Warriors. In India, you can visit the Taj Mahal, see the terracotta temples of Vishnupur, or visit the museums and galleries of Mumbai on a luxury holiday to remember.
Nature-lovers will also find plenty of destinations to choose from when looking for a luxury holiday. Australia is known for its dramatic scenery and is the perfect place to visit for a holiday if you want to see stunning landscapes and fascinating wildlife. Head to Western Australia to see the country’s most famous landmark, Uluru (otherwise known as Ayers Rock), as well as ancient caves and waterholes, or take a trip to Queensland and dive on the Great Barrier Reef, the world’s largest coral reef system, which is also home to more than 1,500 species of tropical fish and many other types of marine life.
Another location known for its natural beauty is Malaysia, and it’s a fantastic destination for luxury holidays. Visit Borneo’s Lok Kawi Wildlife Park to see orang-utans, elephants, tigers and rhinos; trek through the jungle in Penang National Park; or see fruit-bats and macaque monkeys while exploring the Batu Caves, near Kuala Lumpur.
If you’re planning to take the whole family on a luxury holiday, you’ll need to look for a destination that has something to suit everyone. South Africa has plenty to offer, whatever your tastes. Whether you want to take a family safari to spot “the Big Five”, enjoy gourmet food and fine wines from the country’s famous Winelands, go whale-watching in Hermanus or visit historic attractions and contemporary shopping districts in Cape Town or Johannesburg.
