Half Type

What type of paper should i use for a half painting half sketch?

so want to do this sweet art project over the summer. it is half sketch and half watercolor. i was wondering what type of paper i should get for this type of thing.

I would get 140# paper at the very least. I would make sure it is hot pressed paper. The surface on hot pressed is very smooth. If you can find 300# paper, you won’t have to stretch it. Otherwise you can get watercolor canvas from Fredrix or Ampersand Aquabord. Both these are primed to accept Watercolors and work well. Also, Daniel Smith Art Materials has come out with a watercolor ground that can be painted on just about any surface.

Edit: The surface of illustration board will lift when watercolors are applied. Illustration board is paper. Watercolor paper is actually cotton rag which is sized to prevent water penetration into the interior of the paper. This is what makes watercolor paper so strong and keeps the paint from soaking into the paper.
