Is Football Being Hit by the Oil Crisis?
Whether you are just viewing it or participating it everyone in the world enjoys football. When tournaments such as the World Cup are on whole families and countries get together in celebration of their national team.
We all know that for a long while football has been one of the highest paid industries in the world. Resent offerings that Manchester City have been offering for Kaka are in the region of around half a million a week. It is mindblowing that a club would even consider paying someone half a million to play football?
Well to be honest I do not think that it will last much longer due to the current economic climate that we are facing. The credit crunch started in late 2008 and things are set to get worse in 2009. There are 2 industries that have felt the heat the most and they are property and oil. Most of the club owners such as Roman Abramovich will be facing a hard time with the current financial situation.
A barrel of oil has reduced it's price to a very low figure leaving millionaires shuffling around the businesses so that they make a good profit. I believe this means pulling back on the spending that they have been doing for football clubs. Yes I know that football is a very profitable niche, but when you are giving only one person half a million a week, how profitable can the margins be? This is even worse if a football club fail to lift a trophy for a few years.
I think a lot of footballers are highly over rated and no one in the world unless you are a business owner and have worked hard for it deserves to get that amount of money. Its no wonder we are in the current financial situation when companies and banks throw money away.
