i have 16 unused nathan hale half cent stamps is they worth any money ?
American collectors would identify your stamps as either U.S Scott catalog number 551 or 653. The differences are subtle. The easiest way to distinguish them is to measure the perforations with a perforation gauge. 551 is perf. 11 x 11. 653 is perf. 11 x 10 1/2.
In setting a catalog value, it depends on the condition of the gum on the back. If it is exactly as it came from the post office it is called “never hinged”. If the gum has a mark caused by having been hinged into an album, it is “hinged”.
The catalog value for unused 551 is 25 cents hinged, 50 cents never hinged.
The catalog value for unused 653 is 25 cents hinged, 35 cents never hinged.
No one is likely to offer you as much as catalog value for your stamps.
