Franklin Halves

Franklin Halves
I just bought a 1956 Franklin Half Dollar minted by “The American Heritage Mint” for $5, is it worth anything?

I just bought a 1956 Franklin Half Dollar minted by “The American Heritage Mint” for $5 off a buddy of mine. It’s still in original package with the Certificate of Authenticity. It’s covered with a very thin layer of platinum over the top of the coin.

Does anyone know anything about this coin or it’s value, is it even worth $5…I didn’t realize at the time that it was minted by “The American Heritage Mint”. From my understanding it’s not even a U.S. Minted Coin.

Like I said above, I bought it off my buddy for $5 so it’s not a big loss, I was just curious. He needed a pack of smokes, ha.

I’d appreciate any information on this coin, would a coin dealer even be interested in buying it?
well if it’s a 1956 franklin half dollar it has to be made of silver, correct? So I think I’m going to go with the second guys answer (Sorry forgot user name). thanks

If it is a genuine 1956 Franklin half dollar, the silver content of the coin is worth about $8. The plating does not add to the value of the coin.
I would say you came out ahead. Nice.
