Fit Air

Fit Air
How do I make an old air conditioner fit in a new window?

The air conditioner is new just bought it last week but it is for windows that open up, my windows slide to the left. I asked the store I bought it from and they said frame it in with wood or card board or blah blah. Just wondering if there is a product out there to make it fit, and more securely? Mine is currently held in bye a piece of wood and card board, I am worried any one could just walk by and steal my air conditioner.

depending on what type of windows(plastic, timber, aluminium or steel) you have this is how i would do it. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS 1ST TO JUDGE WHETHER YOU CAN DO IT
1.measure the inside points of your widow u wish to fit it in( the inside points is the area the glass covers before tuckin into the frame)

2. remove the frame and glass

3. constuct a box( whateva material u want but try matching your framing cos it will look nicer)make the external box size in the width 2mm smaller than the exsistin frame size(4 a comfortable fit) than measure the aircon unit and cut 3 pieces of stick( or wateva your usin) 2mm bigger than the size u get(2 for the sides an1 for the middle). put the top an sides together than measure the width of the aircon unit and fit the middle stick.mearsue the unit to make sure it will fit before u continue

4. . with the glass removed from the frame fit the box u have just made and secure it with screws goin thru the box into your exsistin winow frame which will now leave u with 3 holes.

5. u will need to either go to your local hardware store and buy a diamond glass cutter (rrp of $10-15) or contact a glazier(recommended) to cut and refit your exsistin piece of glass (about 1hr labour max) and seal with sillicone

6.fit the exsisting widow back into the fame.

7.your aircon should have an external case that can be removed take it and fit it into the last hole and secure it with screws thru the casin into the box u made.

8. fit the actual aircon unit and seal the outside( as in the exposed edge that is between the box u made and the aircon casing) with sillicone to stop water an wind leaks

9. u should have been given screws with the aircon unit of u would have taken them all off to get the casing off, use these to secure the casing to the aircon( usually 2 inside an 2 outside). plug it in and yorr away
