Chicago Flag

Chicago city is the largest city in Illinois and also it is one of the most populated cities in the mid western part of United States. Nearly more than 2.7 million people living in this city. In USA, it is the third most populated city. The municipal Chicago flag consists of 2 blue colored horizontal stripes placed on white background, each horizontal stripe is about one by sixth of the height of its full flag and they are placed from its top to bottom with a one sixth space apart. The Chicago flag consists of four red color and six pointed stars in between the two horizontal blue stripes, these stars are arranged horizontally.

The three horizontal white colors stripes from top to bottom of the Chicago flag represent the north side, Westside and Southside of the Chicago city. The topmost blue stripe represents North side of Chicago River and Lake Michigan While the bottom stripe represents the Great Canal and South side of Chicago River. The four red and six pointed stars present on the center of the white stripe, these stars are arranged from left of the flag to its right side. Among these four red stars, first star of the Chicago flag represent Fort Dearborn. In 1939, first star was included to the Chicago flag. Its six points stands for populousness, labor, commerce, transportation, finance, and salubrity.

In 1917, second star was added to the design of the Chicago flag, which symbolize the 1871 Great Chicago Fire. Its six points stands as a symbol for virtues of education, religion, aesthetics, beneficence, justice, and civic pride. In the same year, third star was also included, which represents 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. This star consists of six pointed stars that symbolize political entities of the Chicago belonging to certain areas such as Great Britain 1763, France 1693, Virginia 1778, Indiana Territory 1802, Northwest Territory 1798, and Illinois 1818.

Finally, fourth star of the flag represents Century of the Progress Exposition during the period 1833 to 1933. Bragging rights of the Chicago city is symbolized by its six points. Bragging rights: second largest city in US, Wonder City, Chicago’s Latin Motto, Great Central Marketplace, Chicago’s “I Will” Motto, and Convention City. As per North American Vexillological Association, Chicago city flag is ranked as the second best flag among one fifty American city flags. It gas gained rating of about 9.03 out of ten. This flag is followed by Washington flag.
