Dutch Colonial

Dutch Colonial
What was the government of colonial New york?

what kind of government did colonial New York have? I know that it was settled by the dutch (founded by henry hudson, an englishman, who was hired by the dutch). And i know that they weren’t into farming, they were mostly aristocrats. But I can’t figure out how they governed themselves. They were obviously NOT under the rule of england, but maybe im wrong…

New York was an English colony. Therefore, under the control of the British crown.

New Amsterdam, however, was a Dutch colony with a military feel to it. And the local government reflected this.
The Dutch at this time had an excellent merchant empire, and were great traders.
New Amsterdam was a bright dot, surrounded by the British and to an extent, the French.
New Amsterdam finally “peacefully” succumbed to the British after far too many skirmishes and became New York

A really basic answer. but true.
