The Joys Of The Yard Sale

Yard sales have grown in popularity in the United States for the last thirty years. For many people, hosting and visiting yard sales has become a great hobby.

Yard sales have many fans. You will find people that enjoy hosting the sale as well as persons that enjoy finding the bargains. Many people enjoy crossing the line between the two and will actually buy items at one sale that they think they can sell for a profit at their own yard sale that next time that they host a garage or yard sale.

There are a plethora of items to be found at yard sales. Many are sold for pennies on the dollar of the original retail price. You may find a for sale digital camera at one sale while at the next you can find a slightly used book of scrapbook ideas. At still another yard sale you might find a wet dry vacuum that is still unopened in its box. You do not know what you can find until you sift through the items offered at a yard sale.

Some people will have an annual sale. They may be getting rid of items for which they have purchased replacements through the year. At other times yard sales are used to liquidate estates. Sometimes a yard sale is held after a wedding when two households have been combined and have duplicates of almost everything.

Here are some keys to success when holding a yard sale.

Put a price on everything. Office supply stores offer printed price stickers just for yard sales. Make sure that your prices leave room for bargain seekers to offer a lower price. If more than one person is involved in the sale, consider color coding the pricing system in order to divide the proceeds later on. Use a spiral notebook to keep track of what is due each person at the end of the yard sale.

Always be willing to take less than the asking price in order to get rid of the stuff and not have to haul it to the dump or give it to charity. Remember that you are trying to get rid of some of the stuff that is cluttering up your home. If you cling to tightly to it, it may end up back inside adding to the clutter or at the end of the sale, you may end up having to pay at the landfill to get rid of something that could have been sold cheaply and used by someone else.
