How do I get Word Mail merge to display the dollar amount I am pulling in from excel?

No matter how I format the excel file column (currency or accounting) I cannot get the full dollar amount to import into a mail merge document in word. It keeps dropping the dollar symbol as well as the decimal point and zeros if it’s an even amount. What can I do?

In Word, under Tools/Options, click on the General Tab. Check the box that says Confirm Conversion at Open.

Then when you open your Excel data source during the merge process in Word, you will be given choices that were not asked before. Choose the option:
MS Excel Worksheets via DDE (*.xls)

Next, the correct choice is usually “Entire Spreadsheet” (as was true in older versions of Office).

Continue with merge, and the formatting from Excel is picked up by Word.
