Dollar Exceptional

very curious to know what the average British person feels about the conduct of the captured sailors…..?
especially now that they have sold their stories to the tabloids for half a million dollars. I have always associated the British military, army or navy with exceptional courage and bravery. I served in the military and was in a combat zone. I don’t know of too many of my colleagues who would voluntarily admit wrongdoing on enemy t.v., joke with the enemy president and then take home a bag of t shirts and pistachio nuts after thanking the Iranians for holding them captive. Aren’t any subjects of the Crown even a little enraged at this bad behavior or have the norms of military conduct changed that much?
Good question
Seeing the images of the marines and soldiers splashed on TV constantly over the last fortnight and the positioning of Faye Turney as some poor simpleton army female missing her kid was very, very embarrasing.
It should have been played down instantly but the UK media gave the Iranian govt the oxygen of publicity.
All governments have then power to dictate what is shown on our screens during combat, this was an avoidable situation that was blown up to be an international crisis that again reiterated that the EU are NOT in agreement with our ‘Middle east situation’ , the UN is useless and the US will do what they want to when it suits and benefits them.
Now the MoD has broken their own rule and let them sell their stories only tells me that the personnel WERE in the wrong and maybe were in a bit of water in which they shouldn’t have been. We are hardly revered for the quality of equipment we give to our troops are we?!
I think its a bit tacky, distasteful and does a huge disservice to the servicemen and women who are fighting and lying in graves now.
Could you see the PoW’s of Japan doing the same thing?
I think THEY had a story to tell.
