Uncirculated Silver Dollar A Search
An uncirculated silver dollar is one that was not put into general circulation. Generally, the United States mint produces coins that are meant for circulation and others that are meant for collectors or as gifs, called proofs. But, there are generally always some coins that do not enter circulation and therefore become highly valuable. If you are collecting coins for the first time, you always want to look for uncirculated or even lightly circulated coins since the condition of the coin is usually excellent.
One of the things you can purchase today is an uncirculated mint set. These sets from the United States Mint have not been entered into general circulation. Some companies and dealers will put together sets to sell. If you are considering purchasing a set, always keep in mind that the value of the set should be determined by two main things. First, it is dependent on the quality of each individual coin. Second, the set’s value is determined by the completeness of the entire set. These two factors will determine the value of buying and selling of the set.
You can of course make your own set or even just collect individual coins. If you do, there are several things to look for.
1. Look for the coin’s age. Silver dollar coins were first minted in 1794. The age of the coin is often an important part of determining the actual value of the coin. But, keep in mind that some coins are more valuable even though they are not as old.
2. The condition of the coin is also important. The coins that show a lot of wear on them are less valuable than those that are in mint condition. When it comes to uncirculated coins, you may think that they are all in excellent condition, but this is not often the case. Many of these coins are actually not cared for.
3. The rarity of the coin is also an important part of the value of these. Some coins are actually more valuable than others because there were not many produced. Or, there may have been errors in the printing of the coin. The 1878 Morgan Silver Dollar, for example, is one of he more valuable. Other valuable coins include the 1794 coins and the rarest of all, the 1804 Silver Dollar.
4. The price of the coins is also dependent on the going price currently. The demand for any coin can change the value of that coin even daily. You will only see the value of the coin rise if the demand rises.
Finding uncirculated silver dollar coins can be a bit more challenging than you would think. It is easiest to look for them online where there is a larger number of coins available and a larger number of dealers. Keep in mind that having a full set is often one of the best ways to see the value increase. Of course, uncirculated silver dollar coins are hard to find, but that is part of their higher value.
