Dime Key
I found what I believe to be an old pendant/key..I was wondering if anyone knew what it meant or was used for?
It has an attachment for what looks like a necklace… It’s shaped octogon and about the size of a canadian penny.. smaller than a dime. On the top left corner it has what looks to be a small ruby for the all seeing eye. On the botton right it has an arabic lamp which i assume stands for knowledge. In the center starting from the bottom left going up to the top right it has the initials NFL. Below the octogon it has a small cyclindrical extension about 1/4 inch long and a circlular ring at the top which makes it look like a key of some sort. On the back it has my grandfather’s or his father’s name on it, depending on how old it is. And below it has the numbers 8187. My grandfather’s and his families decent is Slovakian.
Any information… even a guess is welcome.
Sounds like a testimonial or membership item from a society (like the Masons, the Elks, that sort of thing). There were hundreds of these societies in the 1800s and early 1900s, many organized by trade and by nationality.
