Date Mint
I have a war time wheat penny that I believe to be a mint error?
I have what I believe to be a 1944 war time wheat penny, however, the “1″ is clearly missing and it just has the date 944. What does anyone think?
It is not uncommon for a letter or number to be missing. Just due to the passage of time or someone defacing it could account for it. There are no mint errors listed for a digit left off of a 1944 cent. it is also possible the one was removed to be used on another coin such as using it to change a 1944-D cent in to a1914-D which is worth a few hundred dollars.
