What happens when galaxies collide, like NGC-6240, what happens?
That is, what happens on the level of solar sytems…for examaple, if Our galaxy collides with another galaxy, do the orbits around our sun get disrupted or affected in any measurable way?
Would the orbit around the sun get knocked enough to ruin livable conditions?
Do entire solar sytems (planets, moons, asteroid belts, etc) get scattered as the galaxies obtain their new equilibrium?
Or is it varying? For example, could our sun have enough pull on close planets, perhaps Earth, so that distant planets (say Neptune)get pulled out of the ring, and scattered while closer planets stay locked into the sun’s grav pull; meanwhile maybe small stars lose all planets to galactic merging because they are small, or the planets are distant?
Hope thats not too scatter brained of a question- I wanted to cover all bases.

A ring galaxy (it could also produce a galaxy like NGC-6240, but this is more common). It happens so slowly that you would hardly notice.
Planets would not get switched around because the stars from the other galaxy are just as likely to come close to the sun as any one in our own galaxy is.

Is this based on Andromeda? Because the Andromeda galaxy is heading straight for us.
