Celebrate Citizenship Day And Constitution Day Sept 17
To teach students about the Constitution of the U.S., educational facilities country wide educated and celebrated the 223rd anniversary of the signing of the article. This year, the government decided the programs were really important to do. That is why, according to Fox News, the government has financed the programs for the year. The law made from the late West Virginia Sen. Robert Byrd has been in effect since 2004 making it so September 17 will always be celebrated as “Constitution Day and Citizenship Day”.
Constitution Day and its roots
Those who took the steps to become American citizens were celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of May each and every year as “I Am an American Day” as a result of President Franklin Roosevelt and Congress in 1940. The date was moved to September 17 and renamed “Citizenship Day” by Congress in 1952. In 2004, the law passed by Byrd made sure that government employees learned about the Constitution. Also, any school receiving government aid was required to teach about the Constitution on September 17.
Celebrating the time of the Constitution
College and federal locaters have many seminars all over the country. On Constitution Day, Americans will participate in speeches, presentations, films, parties and panel discussions. Constitution Day has been the day the “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart is publicizing his rally which will happen in October. Expect 9/11 to be brought up frequently.
Constitution Week celebrated by President Obama
For the second time in his presidency, Barack Obama has kicked off Constitution Week (Sept. 17 through Sept. 23) with a call to recognize the rights we hold as citizens. “I encourage federal, state, and local officials, as well as leaders of civic, social, and academic organizations, to conduct ceremonies and programs that recognize our Constitution and reaffirm our rights and obligations as citizens of this good Nation,” is what President Obama said throughout the conference.
