Getting What You Paid For: The HP Color LaserJet 3600n Printer And HP Q6471a Toner
At less than $1,000, the 3600n is an affordable option for most medium size office. It is quite rare to see a sub $1,000 color laser printer. HP has always been in the forefront of cutting edge and affordable technology. The company’s 3600n using Q6470a deserves a closer look.
With a footprint of 15.7 x 17.7 inches, this HP Color LaserJet is quite compact, especially for a color laser printer. However, do not let its size fool you. It weighs a hefty 59.7 lbs, which makes it one of the heaviest laser printers in its group. There are only a few compact color laser printers out in the market and the LaserJet 3600n is definitely one of the most compact.
One of the things that make the 3600n stand out is its networking capability. Most color laser printers in this range do not have any built-in Ethernet port. Its built-in Ethernet port can connect to any wired home network seamlessly. It can automatically detect the settings and you do not need to hire a specialist to connect it.
The LaserJet 3600n does have 360 MHz and 64 MB memory. Unfortunately, there is no way to upgrade the memory since there is only slot. Even though the memory is just 64 MB, it can handle anything thrown at it. However, it may stop once in a while, but it is quite rare.
Similar to other workgroup laser printers, printing speed is a very essential factor to consider. A good printer can handle up 17 pages in a minute. The same is speed can be achieved for color prints. Getting 17 pages per minute for monochrome is not that fast, but it is slightly faster than most. What really caught our attention is the similar speed with both color and monochrome prints. The color prints were clear, with barely noticeable discoloration. As for monochrome, it is nothing short of excellent.
The starting package includes HP Q6473a. The black image drum or toner cartridge has capacity of 6,000 pages. The cyan, yellow, and magenta toner cartridges can handle up to 4,000 pages. This is one of the most comprehensive starter’s kits we have seen so far. For monochrome, the average cost per page is at 2.2 cents, and 3.6 cents for color. A high capacity 12,000-page toner cartridge can make it as low as 2.2 cents per page. So far, HP has one of best printing costs we have seen.
As for power consumption, this HP is one of the most power-efficient devices we have seen so far. When it is operational, it only uses around 335 Watts, which is almost a quarter less than what conventional laser printers use up. If it is on standby, it consumes a measly 48 Watts. The printer can be left turned on the entire day without having worry about electricity cost.
With a price tag of less than $1,000, this HP model is a great product. It is not the fastest, but it offers lower printing costs and quality from the Q6473a. The HP LaserJet is definitely a great addition to the HP’s award winning laser printer lineup and the HP toner is no exception. Working with a great printer and toner duo means value for your dollar.
