5 girls step on a scale 2 at a time and get 10 different weights, how to solve? Details inside.?
A coin operated scale allows someone to weigh their self and after the person steps off the scale it requires more coins.
5 girls only have one coin between them but they all want to know their weight, to get around needing more coins they have 2 girls step on the scale at the same time, then one gets off and another gets on. They record 10 DIFFERENT weights: 246, 241, 253, 243, 256,244,251,247,250,249.
What are the weights of the girls?
You don’t actually have to solve this for me if you can give me a good explanation of how to solve this. But if you do solve it, please show the work. 1st correct answer gets best answer.
a+b=246
a+c=241
a+d=253
a+e=243
b+e=256
c+e=244
d+e=251
d+c=247
d+b=250
c+b=249
Weighing in this order always one of the girls (a..e) is on the scale.
And you have enough equations to solve it (start with the last 3 to solve b,c,d)
This might not be the correct order in which the girls weigh themselves, but one possible, the system should be clear though.
