Coin Denver
Found a stash of denver mint pennies, wondering if they’re worth anything?

Cleaning out my grandfather’s estate, we found an envelope marked ‘Denver Mint”. It’s filled with pennies from the 1980s and 90s, all of which have a D under the date, presumably for Denver.

My grandfather was quite a coin collector, and we’ve found some valuable coins in his collections, but are curious as to why he put all these Denver pennies aside. Are they worth something? Should we hang on to them?

THanks!

I am not sure what was on your grandfathers mind when he saved the 1980-1990′s cents. If he lived in the east he may have just pulled them from change to see what had got there from the Denver mint. I do that sometimes myself to just see what is going on between the mints and the Federal Reserve Banks. If say a bank in the east runs out of cents and the Philly mint is out then they are shipped from Denver. That is one reason some Denver mint state quarters are common on the east coast. It is not uncommon for numismatists or just advanced coin collectors to save things that most people would question. Check them out for errors also.
